Details:

This annual event, co-sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) and the Black Caucus of NCTE, celebrates the beginning of Black History Month. Volunteers read aloud brief selections from African-American literature, with the goal of having one million (or more) readers participating simultaneously nationwide. Although reading selections will be provided at the read-in, you are encouraged to bring your own selections to share. You may choose works of any length, with the only stipulation being that your selection(s) consist of published work by an African-American writer. The event • increases awareness of African-American authors and their contributions to our culture • generates widespread involvement from all sectors of our college community • gives participants experience in facing an audience. Best of all, it’s totally free!
